Only Seeing Stars

Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince are back as The Kills with a new single New York / LA Hex, both with accompanying videos directed by Andrew Theodore Balasia. I'd call it a double A-side single but the record label and other promo I've seen seem to be at pains not to.

LA Hex is built on a downtempo synthetic beat and muted trumpet, with Alison's speak-sing vocals and minimal guitar chords until Jamie's solo kicks in during the song's last third. New York more closely follows a R'n'B blueprint, guitars mostly lower in the mix, Alison's sung refrain of "You taste just like New York".

LA Hex is the pick of the videos for me, and probably nudges it as a song too, though they're both growing with repeated listens. Available on 7" vinyl and download from record label Domino.
