Cut, Copy, Paste, Align, Write Text, Repeat.

Melbourne combo Cut Copy returned this year, half a decade on from their last album, with a trio of new singles followed by a new full length offering, Moments.

Belong To You is the third and most current single, featuring guests Kate Bollinger on shared vocals and “Evil” Graham Lee from The Triffids providing pedal steel. 

All three singles - BelongTo You, When This Is Over and album opener Solid - are available via Bandcamp. The latter comes with an exclusive non-album B-side, A Decade Long Sunset.

 

Moments isn't currently available on Bandcamp, but you can find digital formats in the other usual places. If you prefer something more tactile, CD and coloured vinyl can also be purchased elsewhere. Have a browse.

Coming to Cut Copy in the late 2000s via free MP3 downloads courtesy of RCRD LBL and The Hype Machine, I was really only familiar with remixes, either of their own songs or those that they had done for other artists. 

As we're a couple of weeks away from the final Bandcamp Friday of 2025, I've picked four from the archives for your consideration. If you're feeling flush/generous, I'd recommend the full release in all cases.

 

 

 

Whang Numbers

Six numbers by Nancy Whang, who I was delighted to see on stage with LCD Soundsystem at Glastonbury...well, courtesy of BBC iPlayer, if not in person.

So, what better excuse to revisit some of Nancy's extra curricular activity? I tried to select songs where she either assumes lead vocals or is up front in the mix. Trying then to find videos where Nancy makes an appearance was even tougher, so I pretty much copped out by the end. Sadly, her guest spot on IDLES' 2023 single Dancer doesn't make the cut on both counts.

However, plenty to enjoy along the way, closing with a sampler from a 2014 EP of Nancy covering some Casablanca Records catalogue classics which may have you reaching for your credit card.

And not to ignore LCD Soundsystem completely, here's a timely reminder of one of James, Nancy and the crew's finest moments.

Bone Idol

Peter Bonavota aka Pete Bones has been shakin' it for the past three decades but it's only in the last three years that I've really become aware of his music and remixes as Pete Bones or The Shaker. Another one of those 'better late than never' discoveries.

Expelled from school at age 15, Pete's subsequent CV has mapped out an interesting and varied vocation: DJ, label boss, KISS100fm resident and with hundreds of releases and remixes under his belt (which Discogs only scratches the surface with).

Pete's music has been been a regular on my monthly shopping list of late and this month was no exception. Splintered Bones Vol 1, a collection of Pete's "own edits of some of [his] fav classic tracks" that he's been playing out over the summer, was released on 1st December and it's a cracker.

 

 

Delve a little deeper and you'll find that many of Pete's previous releases feature remixes or re-edits of Talking Heads tunes and if that isn't incentive enough, then his own music across several albums is top notch too. But don't take my word for it, check it out yourself.

 

To set the weekend up nicely, here's a 10-track Dubhed selection that spans the last few years and gives a broad sense of where Pete's at right now. My clubbing days may be some way behind me and I have to agree that "Silent Disco Sucks" but this is a whole new definition of "House Music"...

Monday’s Lindstrøm Song(s)

Hans-Peter Lindstrøm hails from Norway and has been releasing music for nearly 20 years. I first heard Lindstrøm and fellow Norwegian Thomas Moen Hermansen aka Prins Thomas via their epic remix of Tito's Way by The Juan MacLean in 2005 and I've been hooked ever since.

 

Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas also released their debut self-titled album in 2005, with Lindstrøm's first solo album, Where You Go I Go Too, emerging in 2008, the title track stretching to an absorbing 29 minutes. In addition to several more albums both solo and with Prins Thomas, Lindstrøm has been a prolific collaborator. Real Life Is No Cool, Lindstrøm's 2009 album with Isabelle Sandoo aka Christabelle is another personal favourite. Other albums and 12" singles have been released in partnership with Todd Rundgren and Emil Nikolaisen, Rune Lindbæk and Todd Terje.

Today's selection features a snapshot of Lindstrøm's work, with one exception between 2005 and 2013. In my early days of owning an iPod with a 4GB capacity, I used to make edits of long songs just to fit more music onto my playlist. So, to open, here's my chopped down version of Tito's Way, cutting the original 11-minute Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas remix to about half the length, Nancy Whang's vocals still front and centre.

 

There are a couple of tracks from Lindstrøm & Christabelle's album, plus a couple more Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas remixes, first up DJ Harvey's Locussolus project, followed by a contemporary rework of Roxy Music's Avalon to close proceedings. 

 

I've also included Lindstrøm's remix of Blue Velvet, Lana Del Rey's version of the classic song originally recorded by Tony Bennett in 1951 and taken to #1 by Bobby Vinton in 1963. Completing the selection are a couple of solo Lindstrøm songs form opposite ends of the timeline, the original version of I Feel Space from 2005 together with Chris Massey's brilliant remix of Blinded By The LEDs from 2021. The latter is still available as a free download on Bandcamp, grab it while you can.

 

Lindstrøm has just completed a trio of DJ sets in the USA and - fingers crossed - will be back with new music imminently. In the meantime, this is just the antidote to the Monday morning drag of getting up in the dark and forcing a reluctant body and mind to get moving when all it wants to do is crawl back into bed. The cat will now doubt be bemused/horrified when I come to life and proceed to bounce around the kitchen.
