T.T.O.T.D.

Or, "Three Threes On This Day" from the UK singles chart. Walter of A few good times in my life fame may be consulting his solicitors as I type.

On 21st September 1966, the #3 spot was held by a double A-side by The Beatles, Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby. I used to sing one of these to Lady K at bath-time when she was a baby. I'll leave you to figure out which one.

Both videos are lifted from the Yellow Submarine film. I remember when The Beatles' movies were shown on BBC during the school holidays. The only thing I particularly remember is wanting a bed like Ringo's, which was sunk into the floor. These days, I can only pity the poor person who had to change the bedsheets, it must have been a nightmare.

On 21st September 1976, at #3 were The Wurzels with I Am A Cider Drinker. At age 55, I'm neither a fan of The Wurzels or cider. At age 5, I was thankfully too young to be downing scrumpy, but even at that young age I knew shite when I heard it. Watching this video again half a century later has not changed my opinion.

I know this may be sacrilege, especially as I'm a West Country boy, but I'd rather listen to Una Paloma Blanca.

On 21st September 1986, Cameo achieved a peak position of #3 with Word Up. Surely the first time that I'd seen a codpiece on Top Of The Pops, but it was bright red and kind of hard to ignore...! Unlike The Wurzels video, the clip for Word Up is as slick and captivating as it was forty years ago. A stone cold classic.

And, in case you missed it in my recent post, here again is the completely unexpected cover of Word Up by Scanner, released earlier this year.
