About My World is the English translation of the Norwegian phrase Om Verda Mi, which also happens to be the title of the debut album by Lakeshouse.
Yes, Lakeshouse are from Norway, so I might as well get the obvious comparisons out of the way first. The record label promo blurb does the same, namechecking Röyksopp, Todd Terje and Lindstrøm.
And yes, it's all of these and more, but the influences run deeper, bringing into the 70s disco of French band Space and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, Japanese pioneer Fantastic Plastic Machine and Scottish maverick Mylo.
All of that, yet it's also the distillation of a partnership that has been releasing music for over a decade, refining and reinventing their sound before arriving at this 12-track, 53-minute
debut.
Many of the songs are around the 3 or 4 minute mark, all sound complete and when they drop in a banger, it really goes off. The gentle moments are exactly that and, when used, vocals switch languages with ease across the album.
Om Verda Mi is described as "channelling a psychedelic utopian Norway", which I like. I like the album even more. Without sounding like faint praise, Om Verda Mi is a feelgood album. At least, I feel a lot better after listening to it!
For today's selections, I've gone with the two singles, Ubegrensa Harmoni, which translates as Unlimited Harmony, and Renates Dans (I'm sure you can figure this one out for yourself).
I've added two other standouts for me in Eg Står Opp I Dag (I Get Up Today) and Secret Plants, but really it's all good.
Om Verda Mi is available now, or you can hold on for another three weeks until the last Bandcamp Friday of 2025, when all your moolah will reach the artist.
