Whether you like Mondays, House Music, both or neither, Move Your Body by Marshall Jefferson feels just the song to get the week off to a proper start.
That piano chord, Curtis McClain's vocals, the insistent rhythm, Ron Hardy's mixing, Move Your Body went on to coin the name of a genre and become an era-defining classic. Hard to believe that in 1985, Jefferson's friends were largely indifferent to the track and felt that it needed to be "fixed". By 1986, the clubs had spoken and the rest is history.
Which took me back to Pump Up The Volume: The History Of House Music, a 3-part documentary aired on Channel 4 in 2001. I don't think I saw it - or at least, all of it - back then but the power of t'internet means that it's available online. I've diving back in.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Or, if you've got a couple of hours spare, here's the entire series in one go.
