Yesterday Is Now Tomorrow

Teenage Fanclub have an album out on 22nd September (a month earlier for digital). Nothing Lasts Forever is their eleventh full length record and a surprising sidestep into the dance tent, throwing breakbeat, grime, ye gods even drill influences into the mix and seeing how it lands for a band now well into their third decade of making music.

Oh, alright. It's none of those things. If the first two tracks - and songs released ahead of the album - are anything to go by, the album is reassuringly Teenage Fanclub, "effortlessly turn[ing] melancholy into glorious, chiming harmony."

And sometimes, that's exactly what you need in your life.

  1. I recognise most of those genres you mention but I'm not familiar with "ye gods". Is that what the young people are listening to these days?

    1. Ah, a perfect prompt for a quiz. No prize, this is just for fun. Is "ye gods":
      1) A musical sub-genre inspired by and a homage to the work of the artist formerly known as Kanye West?
      or
      2) A phrase from the chorus of Simply Thrilled Honey by Orange Juice which I'd been listening to prior to writing this post and which clearly stuck in my head?
      or is it both?

I know the answer and I'm still secretly wishing it was both...

    1. Great stuff, CC, that'll go towards the lads' next video shoot in Norway. Money well spent in my opinion!

  3. Really enjoyed the Butler, Blake and Grant gigs earlier in the year. Whilst I love TFC would probably more likely go and see them again if they were to do a repeat, than TFC without G Love in the band
    :(

    1. That B/B/G night sounded incredible, Mike, if they ever give it another run with a local gig, count me in!
