What better way to usher in the (school) holidays than an hour on the road with the Arch Drude behind the wheel? Woden help us.
You'll be hard pressed to find any of these songs on your typical service station driving rock compilation CD box set, nestled between the ice scrapers (in July!) and plastic-wrapped flapjacks with unfathomable toppings. More's the pity, if you ask me.
Unsurprisingly, quite a few from Julian's 1994 magnum opus Autogeddon but as you'll see, it's been a recurring theme in his songs for the past four decades.
Grab a pasty and a sick bag, hop in the passenger seat and don't forget to fasten your seat belt!

Excellent work, particularly Alexei Sayle Driver Improvement Course.
ReplyDeleteI had to attend a speed awareness course many years ago. Oh, to have had Julian Cope in that same group...
Deletenice mix. Some I've never heard.
ReplyDeleteThanks, blureu, Julian Cope is the gift that keeps on giving.
DeleteHaven't listened to Autogeddon in ages ; must fish it out...
ReplyDeleteLikewise, Mike. Following on the heels of Peggy Suicide and Jehovahkill, I thought Autogeddon was a disappointment at the time. It's still not one of my go-to albums, but it has definitely gained from repeated listens over the years.
DeleteLooks like a trip
ReplyDeleteFor the real heads, Adam.
