Come Take Me By The Hand

On a Friday, I often post a mix aimed at the dancefloor (whether that's a club or your own kitchen) to usher in the weekend. No need to this time, Jezebell have done all the heavy lifting with their new single.

Jezeblue is 11 minutes and 46 seconds of beautiful Balearic bliss, banishing the workday washed-out summer blues and replacing them with the amazing azure of an Ibizan vista, seemingly stretching on forever.

You'll wish the song could do the same. Don't be deceived by the running time when it pops up in your player, Jezeblue could be twice, three times the length and still feel like it could carry on and on. The vocal refrain, "Come take me, take me by the hand", kicks in and it's a surprise to see that you're already 70 seconds in, such is the subtle, compelling build of the intro.

Partly, it's the engaging familiarity of the music. 599 days between their debut Thrill Me in November 2021 and Jezeblue's release today (14th July) and the establishment and evolution of the Jezebell sound over multiple singles and remixes has been a (excuse the pun) thrill to experience. From the opening seconds, it's immediately recognisable as a Jezebell song, yet what lies ahead remains unpredictable.

I really enjoyed their similarly epic-length Jezebelle Et Moi release from February 2022 but whereas that was a widescreen rework of a 1970s Max Berlin's track played over three parts, Jezeblue is an entirely new song (with a sliver of  naggingly familiar keyboard) that builds and grows as a single continuous track. On my first listen, I found myself almost unconsciously clicking on the loop function so that I could immediately hear it again. And again. A few days in from receiving Jezeblue as a pre-release and I still can't listen to it just once without hitting repeat for another play or two.

Jezebell is Jesse Fahnestock and Darren Bell, based in Stockholm and London respectively, but unbound by geography in their meeting of minds and music. Wherever you are, their music draws you in and makes you feel part of a global community. Whether you're on a beach at sunset, a club at nighttime or a kitchen at dawn, looking out over a rainswept English garden as sunshine struggles to break through, Jezebell has the perfect soundtrack for you. Jezeblue is their latest and greatest addition.

Jezeblue should be available via Bandcamp by the time you read this. If you haven't already, also check out Jezebell's previous releases, ranging from free to name your price to £1.00 purchases. Your weekend, no, your life will be all the better for it.
