HANN-tastic

I was introduced to HANN aka Hannah Fitzpatrick a last October by C, creator of the rather wonderful Sun Dried Sparrows blog. I then snapped up everything that she had released on Bandcamp and enthused about her music here.

The good news is that HANN is back with a new single and video, Saddle-Billed Stork, following February's one-off song, I've Got A Cold. Both are available on Bandcamp, with Saddle-Billed Stork coming in two versions, the original and an extended Long Leggy Mix. Great stuff.

  1. Love it. And many thanks for the return gesture Khayem as I was unaware of this. A nice timeless element going on with a sprinkling of Stereolab to my ears!

    1. And any tribute to birds is a treat too.

    2. Many thanks, C. I'm surprised that I haven't posted a birds-theme selection yet! There's a lovely 2001 album by Minotaur Shock called Chiff-Chaffs & Willow Warblers. Unfortunately, no title track and the best he can come up with is a song called Three Magpies. I'll give it some thought...

    3. I'd never made the Stereolab connection before, but there is a touch of Laetitia Sadier in HANN's vocals isn't there?

    4. Oh, I'd definitely be up for a birds-theme selection or three! I'll have to check out Minotaur Shock - had never heard of them so thanks. To go extremely birdy, do you know any of Cosmo Sheldrake's work? This, for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krQDFzBxo7Q
I had the great pleasure of watching a red kite fly over our roof this morning (they are relatively new to this far East still), so low that I could see as it turned its head to look down and all the details in its plumage from beneath. Made my day.

    5. Lovely to read of your red kite encounter. I live out "in the sticks" and I'm very fortunate to have regular visits to my garden from a diverse selection of birds. We have generations of blackbirds that have made their home in our hedge and are incredibly bold. I've posted a photo of one today (Monday) taken when it was less than a metre away from me, happily pottering around the garden, rooting for worms. A lovely moment of just sitting back and watching life go on.

    6. Thanks also for the Cosmo Sheldrake link, C. I have the grand total of his two songs, a remix of Dance Off that featured on last year's EarthPercent x Earth Day Compilation Album and a song called Hark, by his former band Gentle Mystics, dating from 2011. I'd completely forgotten about the latter as it was on a freebie CD with a music magazine. I prefer the former, which is in a similar style to Skylark, which I loved. In fact, I loved it so much, I ended up listening to the entire album. Another one for my shopping list. Thank you!

    7. Ah, brilliant on both points here! I too live out in the sticks and have a garden full of birds, and know exactly what you mean about the boldness of some, especially the resident blackbirds. If I'd have been around in Witchfinder General days I'm sure I'd have been hanged as a witch for having familiars in avian form! So true about just sitting back and watching, the way they lives their lives in blissful oblivion to the greater problems of the world is incredibly grounding, isn't it? I knew very little about Cosmo so thanks for the extra info here and brilliant that you had some of his music already. A funny thing happened when I rather randomly mentioned him to my musician cousin recently, not expecting any connection, and he told me he'd done a weekend in the '80s with Cosmo's mother Jill Purce learning Mongolian overtone chanting.... you couldn't make it up!
