I was an extremely late comer to their albums, despite always enjoying what I heard - and saw, their videos were always brilliant - from the moment that they burst into our consciousness in the 1980s. I was only peripherally aware of their music in the 1990s and started playing catch up in the 21st century. Sadly, the passing of MCA aka Adam Yauch in 2012 brought an end to Beastie Boys a couple of years later. However, their music continues to inspire, influence and entertain.
Here are ten tracks, not a 'best of, but a few personal favorites and overall seemed to flow well together. MCA, Ad Rock aka Adam Horowitz and Mike D aka Michael Diamond, I salute you.
1) Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament (2011)
2) The Vibes (1994)
3) Sabotage (Alex Metric Re-Edit) (2010)
4) Intergalactic (Prisoners Of Technology/TMS 1 Re-Mix) (1998)
5) Triple Trouble (J. Wizzle Remix) (2004)
6) In 3's (1992)
7) Instant Death (1998)
8) Hey Ladies (Album Version) (1989)
9) Hold It Now, Hit It (Album Version) (1986)
10) Get It Together (Album Version) (1994)
1986: Licensed To Ill: 9
1989: Paul's Boutique: 8
1994: Ill Communication: 10
1998: Intergalactic EP: 4
1992: Check Your Head: 6

Can't go wrong with the Beastie Boys. Pick any 10 tracks from that run of records from Paul's Boutique to Hello Nasty and you'll find gold.
ReplyDeleteI wish it hadn't taken me quite so long to figure that out, Adam! Compiling this selection took me back to the great Beastie Boys mix you posted on Bagging Area...a shock to discover that was June 2022!
