Just discovered this one - really like this list but the colourbox singer is flat as a pancake - shame as the music sounds good!
ReplyDeleteThe first version I heard - like many, I guess - was by This Mortal Coil, on their second album Filigree & Shadow in 1986. I discovered this 12" single a few years later in Replay in Bristol, their first and original shop in the underpass between the Bear Pit and the bus station. Perversely, the off kilter singing is part of its appeal to me! I was quite surprised to find that Beck did a cover version of it in 2019 - you can find it on the album Music Inspired By The Film Roma. It's interesting, not a patch on Colourbox or TMC though.
