Box Set (No) Go

When I started this blog a couple of years ago, I used Box to make my selections available for download. After a while, I started experiencing issues with uploads so I switched to Mega, which seemed a lot more user friendly and offered three times the 10GB free space offered by Box.

I decided to give Box another go recently and all seemed fine up to last week, when it became apparent from feedback that visitors were having trouble accessing the downloads. You'll see from the comments on Sunday's post that I've removed, reuploaded and recreated Box links several times.

When a post goes live - and I do check them most days, honest - all seems fine. I can access the link, play back the selection online and download the file no problem. However, go back a little while later and whilst the playback (on a PC) is fine, the download now hangs indefinitely with the "Your download is in progress" pop up message.

If I try to access the link via my (admittedly quite old iPhone), then playback doesn't work at all and the download link brings up a "Sorry, we couldn't find that page" message.

I haven't spent hours scouring t'internet to be fair, but I've been unable to find any trouble shooting advice or guidance that tells me what the problem might be. I've checked and rechecked my Box settings and I don't think I'm doing anything wrong when creating the link in the first place.

Any suggestions? Mega was pretty hassle free but not necessarily accessible to all. Would you recommend any other platforms?

  1. Box as good for a while but then I began to have problems with it.
I've sold my soul to the Devil and now use Google Drive.

    1. Thanks, CC, this is my second go with Box and the same thing happened last time, so I think I'm done with them now. Notwithstanding whether I go for Google Drive, I think I sold my soul to the Devil a long time ago!

  2. i was not able to download the last 3 or so, but just now they all downloaded. I did originally had an error a few days back that I needed to open a port to download which appears if you sit on the web page and wait a couple minutes, which I just assumed was some off McAffee issue, but I dont see that now.

    1. Thanks, Unknown, I'm glad that you were able to download on a return attempt. I regularly visit other music blogs that use Box and, as a visitor, I have no problems with playback or downloads so it's both a mystery and frustration that it's happening again with my posts.

  3. Box eventually stopped working for me. Think they were trying to force everyone to a paid for version. Just use Google Drive now

    1. I haven't heard The High for ages, so it seemed a good excuse to shoehorn in some music and offset my moaning!

    1. Thanks for the pointer, Unknown. I did check out gofile a while back, before trying Box again. gofile looks good but it doesn't appear the free version will give me control over how long my MP3 selections stay active. Not a massive deal in the scheme of things, but less attractive than other platforms in that respect.

  7. I've long used Box - well over a decade now - and never had any issues at all. Having said that, I use a paid-for version....it offers piece of mind!
