It's only Tuesday and it already feels like a long week...! So what better remedy than some reggae, specifically Dennis Brown performing Revolution at the Reggae Sunsplash festival, in the Bob Marley Performing Center Montego Bay, Jamaica, on 21st July 1991, at 11.45am precisely.
Revolution was originally a single in 1983, produced by Sly & Robbie and released on their Taxi label.
In 1985, Revolution was the opening song of an album of the same name, this time produced by Dennis and issued on Yvonne's Special, the label run by his wife.
In 1986, Revolution again featured as an album opening song, this time the Sly & Robbie-produced version, again on the Taxi label, but titled Brown Sugar and featuring a completely different track list.
In 1991, the mood is good: Nelson Mandela had been freed 18 months previously after 27 years in prison, and the revolution in question was to bring about the end of apartheid in South Africa.
In 1994, following South Africa's first multiracial election, Nelson Mandela was elected president.
Do you know what it means to have a revolution?
And what it takes to make a solution?
Fighting against oppression
Battering down depression
Are you ready to stand up and fight the right revolution?
Are you ready to stand up and fight it just like soldiers?
Many are called, few are chosen
Many are called, few are chosen
Got to fight the right fight in this time
