Two months since my last Julian Cope selection? Unforgivable! Here's a selection of radio sessions, remixes, raw versions and rarities, from 1982-1984. Ten songs, just over half an hour. For the real heads.

2) Laughing Boy (David 'Kid' Jensen Session, 05 January 1984)
3) I Need Someone (1983)
4) Pussyface (Remixed By Stephen Lovell) (1984)
5) Kolly Kibber's Birthday (Demo) (1982)
6) I Went On A Chourney (1984)
7) Strasbourg (Demo 1) (1982)
8) Disaster (Janice Long Session, 12 December 1984)*
9) Jesus Christ & The Mysterons (Demo) (1982)
10) Land Of Fear (Single Version By Stephen Lovell) (1984)

1984: The Greatness And Perfection Of Love (12" single): 4

  1. Nothing better on a Sunday morning to get a Julian H Cope compilation. This reminds me I haven't listened to the 'Floored Genius' collections in ages...I must listen again ASAP!

  2. I've been loving the demo of Kolly Kibber's Birthday. Would have been interesting to hear him plough that particular musical furrow. Reminded me of Pink Industry, not a completely out there notion, given the Liverpool/Jayne Casey/Big In Japan/Drummond & Balfe ley line.

Those Floored Genius compilations are ace. Vols 3 & 4 are a bit hit-and-miss, but there's some great songs in there. Vol 2 is possibly the best Cope 'best of', even if it is comprised of BBC session versions. It was only when researching for this post that I released that Vol 2 was re-released in 2010 as a 2CD set with the full sessions. I'm tempted to track it down if only to replace my ropey bootleg of Disaster, Saint Julian and the rest...
